Included below are different organizations our focus group selected around the University of Michigan and Ann Arbor community. The demographics these organizations look to serve, as well as their missions, and modes of activism differ; but, are all united by a common goal in protecting and furthering gender based and/or LGBTQ+ equity.

Center for the Education of 

 Women+

 

CEW+ navigates circumstantial barriers by providing academic and professional support to help individuals reach their personal potential. Established to support women through higher education, CEW+ lifts up women and all underserved communities at the University of Michigan. Through career/education counseling, student funding, workshops, events, and a diverse and welcoming community,

Girl Up Michigan 

​

Girl Up is a United Nations Foundation Campaign that was launched in 2010 to ensure that girls in developing countries are educated, healthy, safe, counted, and positioned to be the next generation of leaders. Through fundraising and advocacy, Girl Up Michigan aims to empower others to get involved and teach the Ann Arbor community that girls around the world matter.

Michigan Men

 

Michigan Men programming focuses on socialization around gender, specifically masculinity, and its impacts on individuals, relationships, and communities. It equips participants with skill sets promoting wellness, healthy relationships, and values-driven communities. Its broad goal is to create an inclusive and empathetic campus.

Notably Black and Gay 

 

Notably Black and Gay is founded on three tenets: fellowship, education, and activism. Notably Black and Gay is committed to creating an inclusive community, queering U of M's space, and creating cross-campus relationships.Notably Black and Gay acknowledges the importance of education in constructing and understanding your racial and sexual identity.

Out in STEM

 

Out in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math's mission is to provide professional development, and social support for undergraduate and graduate LGBTQ students in STEM fields. We do this through networking opportunities, mentorship programs and social activities.

Black and Pink

 

This org recognizes the harms of the prison industrial complex (PIC), particularly for people who identify across the LGBTQ+ spectrum and/or living with HIV/AIDS. This club strives to acknowledge the ways in which public health and other health professions have participated in the ways in which the PIC targets marginalized groups.
