What does Lunar Doula do?
Lunar Doula Support Network is a student organization which works under the parent nonprofit Lunar Doula Collective. (LDC) They strive to promote reproductive justice, in ways such as supporting people who are experiencing reproductive loss (pregnancy loss, stillbirth, miscarriage, abortion) with lost doulas, as well as volunteer events such as creating care packages for domestic violence shelters. It’s very service oriented and it’s about providing resources to people who need it throughout the Ann Arbor community and southeastern Michigan. One of the big focuses of the club is combating the stigma around reproductive loss and providing a space where people can discuss it freely. Like this project, they also focus on connecting people to existing resources that are less known.
What is a Lost Doula?
LDC trains people on becoming lost doulas. A lost doula is a support person who provides emotional or resource support to a person after they’ve experienced a loss to help with their reproductive health or needs. On top of that, the lost doula is someone to talk to that you can count on for respect and compassion. You don’t need to suffer alone.
What resources can LDSN connect me with?
Other resources include help funds for abortion care, support groups to meet with people in similar situations (or just get peer support). There are also doula services, where you can speak with someone who’s more removed from the situation and can be more objective with helping you work through things you’re going through. Additionally, there are informational resources, such as where to find women’s health centers or abortion clinics.
