What does CARE do?

CARE - Cost Assistance for Resilient Engineers, is a philanthropy based organization geared towards raising money for engineering students. CARE provides a one semester scholarship for engineering students that are in danger of dropping out due to financial hardships. As of right now, CARE consistently provides one semester financial aid in the form of scholarship, but is hoping to grow its capacities in the future to provide more assistance.


What demographics does CARE look to help? 

CARE is dedicated to helping engineering students who may be faced by financial hardship and are at risk of being unable to complete their academic degree due to finances. They provide emergency funding so are looking to help individuals caught in a financial emergency.


CARE's Mission statement/values?

CARE believes that financial difficulties should never stand in the way of Michigan Engineers achieving their dreams, and by following CARE’s mission, Peyton and her org hope to provide every student with the opportunity to be among “those who stay.”

Peyton, what inspired you to participate in CARE?

Peyton cited that CARE's mission statement deeply resonated with her as a current biomedical engineer. She additionally noted that she first got involved with CARE as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) chair and now served as president for two years. She cited she was inspired by the opportunity CARE provides to other engineers and that serving as president has been a great leadership experience for her individually.


What events/resources does CARE have available?

The main resource CARE provides is the one semester scholarship for engineers in need, as previously mentioned, they are hoping to expand this scholarship past one semester.

Some events CARE hosts are Giving Tuesday, a global day of charitable giving celebrated on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, where CARE collects donations to fund their scholarship program. They additionally look forward to a collaborative event with The Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB), a group of students serving as a liaison between the College of Engineering Honors Program students, faculty, staff and alumni. They also hope to add restaurant fundraisers to their future fundraising endeavors.
